The Roaring Twenties Return to Downtown Tampa: Hotel Flor’s Centennial Celebration Series Continues with “Prohibition Nights” This August

Hotel Flor Recreates the Thrill of the Bootleg Era with Authentic Cocktails, Live Music, and Hidden History at The Dan Every Friday in August

TAMPA, Fla. (August 6th, 2026) Hotel Flor invites Tampa to step through time this August. Prohibition Nights, the second chapter of the hotel’s celebrated Historic Happy Hours centennial countdown series, is transforming The Dan every Friday in August into an immersive 1930s speakeasy. Guests will experience era-defining cocktails, live music, and the clandestine atmosphere that once defined the hotel during its earliest days, highlighting the intense final years of the dry law when the Great Depression gripped the nation and Prohibition turned every good pour into a secret worth keeping. While the rest of the country struggled to find a drink, the hotel, originally opened in 1927 as the Hotel Floridan, famously maintained its reputation as a luxurious, discreet oasis where the elite knew exactly how to bypass the rules.

Every Friday throughout August, guests will be transported back to that electric era of hushed conversations and under-the-radar pours. The Dan will recreate the environment where every cocktail was crafted with the utmost care, because back then, the stakes were high. Historical details will set the scene, vintage drinks will flow, and live music will take over the room from 7–10PM, bringing the energetic sounds of underground ballrooms straight to downtown Tampa.

As the calendar turns, the campaign explores the hotel’s legendary reputation. In August, “Prohibition Nights” pays homage to the hotel’s famous Sapphire Lounge. During World War II, the lounge became a premier nightspot for servicemen training at nearby Drew Field, earning the notorious nickname “The Surefire Room” because it was considered a “surefire” place to meet single women.

This era comes alive through more than just the menu. Guests will sip from metal and copper cups, snack off bamboo picks, and receive martini hand stamps at the door, all echoing the speakeasy details of the period.

The featured cocktails carry the theme forward: the Bee’s Knees, a Prohibition classic born in underground bars using gin, honey syrup, and fresh lemon; the Southside, a crisp blend of gin, lime, and mint that kept Chicago cool during the dry years; and the Ward Eight, a pre-Prohibition legend of rye whiskey, lemon, orange juice, and grenadine that survived the era. Alongside these classics, The Dan will debut the Smuggler’s Reserve, a house creation worthy of the Floridan’s original back-room pours, paired with the featured appetizer, the Hidden Cellar Board, a curated cheese board with dried fruits evoking the spirit of the era.

Pairing perfectly with the vintage cocktails, The Dan’s newly reimagined dinner menu brings old-school steakhouse tradition into the present with bold, modern Gulf Coast flair. Standouts include the whole fried DAN Snapper, plated over pineapple rice and creamed spinach and finished with a Thai chili glaze; the Pasta Catalina, tossed with tender ribeye and cheese tortellini in a silky Marsala cream sauce; and the classic 12 oz. Dry Aged N.Y. Strip, served with broccolini, potato fondant, and a bright chimichurri.

To fully capture the spirit of the era, attendees are highly encouraged to embrace the vintage glamour of the decade by arriving in their finest dapper suits, flapper fringe, or classic fedoras. As an exclusive reward for diving into the theme, guests who dress in period-appropriate attire will receive a complimentary selection from The Dan’s newly debuted dessert menu. This sweet addition to the time-traveling experience features artisan creations such as the signature “Dan” Bread Pudding layered with rich chocolate and fresh strawberries, the modern “Flor” Strawberry Shortcake, a silky Chocolate Mousse with candied pecans, and a decadent, deep Chocolate Torte.

This historic month is part of a larger, six-month chronological countdown to celebrate the “Grande Dame of Tampa.” Soaring 19 stories over downtown and designed by renowned architects Francis J. Kennard & Son, the hotel has been the epicenter of high society since the Florida land boom. The grand centennial journey began in July with The Start of an Era, and following August’s Prohibition Nights, the timeline advances to September’s Jazz & Jasmine to honor the late-1930s swing era with live jazz. October brings The Society Pages with wartime cocktails from the 1940s, followed by November’s Mod & Martinis which channels the mid-century cool of the 1960s with Rat Pack-inspired drinks. The centennial series reaches its peak on December 31st, 2026, with the grand finale, “A Century Uncorked.” Details on this property-wide celebration, including ticket information and pricing, will be announced soon.

Don’t miss the chance to experience the sights, sounds, and secrets that kept downtown Tampa roaring through the darkest days of the dry laws. Guests are invited to secure their place in history today by booking an evening of vintage opulence, elite craftsmanship, and unforgettable entertainment in the heart of downtown Tampa.

Reservations for The Dan can be made by calling (813) 318-9719 or directly on OpenTable. Guests who type the promotional code 100YEARS into their reservation notes will unlock a complimentary dessert for their table to sweeten this century-in-the-making celebration.
