Step Back Into the Swing Era This September at The Dan, Where Live Music, Floral Cocktails, and Century-Old History Set the Stage for Tampa’s Premier Friday Night Happy Hour
TAMPA, Fla. (September 3rd, 2026) – Hotel Flor is turning back the clock to the 1930s this September with Jazz & Jasmine, a month-long celebration of the swing era and the latest chapter in its ongoing Historic Happy Hour series, part of the hotel’s centennial countdown celebration.
Every Friday throughout September, The Dan will transform into a soulful speakeasy, pairing live music from 7 to 10 p.m. with a curated menu of era-authentic spirits that defined the decade. The series invites guests to experience the rhythm of a time when big bands music filled the air and cocktails were as smooth as the saxophone solos that inspired them.
The evening’s cocktail menu features four era-inspired creations. The Jasmine Swing, the series’ signature drink, is an effervescent gin and sparkling wine cocktail brightened with jasmine syrup and fresh lemon. Velvet Note offers a smoother, more aromatic twist on a classic Old Fashioned, blending bourbon with honey syrup and orange bitters. Garden Blues is a fresh, herbal sipper made with gin, mint, and jasmine tea, while Midnight in Bloom closes out the lineup with a romantic, floral finish of vodka or gin, peach nectar, and elderflower liqueur. Guests can also enjoy an appetizer feature of jasmine honey ricotta crostini.
A Six-Month Countdown to the Centennial
September’s celebration is one chapter in a larger six-month chronological countdown honoring the “Grande Dame of Tampa.” Originally opened in 1927 as the Hotel Floridan, the property was built at a cost of $1.9 million and designed by prominent Tampa architecture firm Francis J. Kennard & Son. At 19 stories, it was the tallest building in Florida at the time and remained Tampa’s tallest until 1966. The hotel quickly became a hub of high society during the Florida land boom, and its ground-floor bar, once known as the Sapphire Room, has hosted guests ranging from World War II servicemen stationed at nearby Drew Field to Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Marilyn Monroe over the decades. The hotel was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1996 and underwent an $18 million restoration before reopening in 2012. In January 2024, the property reopened once more as Hotel Flor Tampa Downtown, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, carrying its century of history into a new era.
The grand centennial journey began in July with The Start of an Era, and continued in August with Prohibition Nights. The timeline now advances to September’s Jazz & Jasmine, honoring the late-1930s swing era with live jazz. October brings The Society Pages, featuring wartime cocktails from the 1940s, followed by November’s Mod & Martinis, which channels the mid-century cool of the 1960s with Rat Pack-inspired drinks. The centennial series reaches its peak on December 31, 2026, with the grand finale, “A Century Uncorked.” Details on this property-wide celebration, including ticket information and pricing, will be announced soon.
Reservations for The Dan can be made by calling (813) 318-9719 or directly on OpenTable. Guests who type the promotional code 100YEARS into their reservation notes will unlock a complimentary dessert for their table to sweeten this century-in-the-making celebration.
